Problem To Solution

What do Children Really Need?

What are the critical psychological needs of a child? Under what conditions do children develop well, become resilient to environmental conditions and make the best of their abilities and opportunities?

When children are exposed to trauma and repeated stress, when their childhood demands that they grow up too fast, they are left poorly prepared for the demands of adulthood and they often perpetuate the cycle of abuse and neglect that they experienced. If we are to break the intergenerational cycle of abuse and neglect, we must come to a real understanding of what children really need and give them an opportunity to receive the experiences that will prepare them to change the trajectory of their lives.

This workshop will introduce you to the three critical needs of all human beings: Safety, Love and Stimulation. They are especially critical in childhood when, like a newly rooting plant, young ones need all the nourishment they can get to have healthy, sturdy growth.

In this workshop, participants will learn:

  • What are the basic requirements for childhood that allow children to grow up and become happy, healthy, contributing members of society
  • What happens when children's basic need are not met
  • How to recognize signs of lack in children and assess the real needs of each child.
  • How to use an understanding of children's needs to create individualized, proactive plans that help children heal and grow
